Aloha, Family! How’s 2025 been treating you so far? I know it’s been a wild month for many of us. It seems there’s turbulence everywhere. In my own life, I’ve gone through a full-blown death portal and come out on the other side with increased clarity and purpose. Part of my journey had to do with this space and brought a new identity into focus. Relax and grab a cup of tea as I share the path that led to the name change and a bit about the magical energy we get to play with here.
It all began in a café on New Year’s Eve. I was in the middle of a journey with the spirit of Rosemary (something I’ll write more about soon) and part of her medicine is activating the internal Sun and Mercury. Think identity and communication. Boy, did she deliver! I was reminded of a mystical encounter I had nine years ago while going through an abuse recovery program for narcissistic, emotional and physical abuse I’d experienced. One of the exercises led us to ask God for our Original Design… to replace the imprint of shame. At the time I was still in the Christian church (that is no longer the case), so what I referenced then as “God” I would now think of as the Divine, my Higher Self or another guide, like Yeshua. Still, the voice spoke clearly and answered my question.
“You are a golden butterfly.”
I was initially disappointed as I thought butterflies seemed weak and frilly. I wanted to be strong and powerful. Still, the words brought me to my knees as I could feel their truth. I knew I’d been given clues to my unique Original Design found in the symbolism of the butterfly and gold. So I did a deep dive.
Butterflies are masters of transfiguration, going from one form to another in their lifetime. I happen to think caterpillars are some of the bravest creatures on our planet. They not only spin their own coffin, but they march right into it, shed their skin and willingly allow themselves to become goo with what seems to be very little struggle. We could learn from that. The other factor highlighted was butterflies as pollinators. Second only to bees, they flit from one flower to another keeping whole species alive with their dance.
Then there’s gold. Gold is one of the densest metals on earth as well as being incredibly malleable. One article I found said it can be stretched and pulled to almost impossible lengths without breaking. As someone who felt tested by life, this struck a chord. It wasn’t until years later that I would discover the connection gold has to alchemy…
Fast forward nine years, and my life is 100% different. At the age of 41, I left the church (although Yeshua is still near and dear to my heart and will always be a guide) and have embraced a much broader and accepting world view. I’ve gone from working in the church I was attending and going to ministry school to being an astrologer, full blown mystic and pursuing my passion full-time. The last three years have been a deep, alchemical healing journey and I’ve shed many of my caterpillar ways. And just like the butterfly keeps her eyes and antennae in the chrysalis, I can look back and see that one sense of direction has been leading my whole life. My greatest desire is to assist humanity in the great change we’re experiencing as a species. To help create “the more beautiful world our hearts know is possible.” (Thank you, Charles Eisenstein.) In being reminded of this golden butterfly moment, my purpose and function were highlighted once again. Alchemy and illumination. So, I found myself asking how could I craft that essence into something that serves you, my community, in this space? Answers came in the next several weeks, along with the new name and the presence of Ophiuchus.
In the middle of this unfolding, I had the gift of experiencing an astrology reading with Natasha Kealoha, and WOW. She offers a combination of tropical and true sidereal astrology and is truly adept at interpreting the energies in your chart and weaving them in a way that triggers a deep soul remembering. That’s when I discovered my moon sign in true sidereal is Ophiuchus. If you’re not an astrology buff, don’t worry about deciphering that. Let’s just say this was a huge revelation and reinforced the message I’d been reminded of in that café. So, what is Ophiuchus? It is the thirteenth sign in the Zodiac. The missing sign. As I explored for myself in the last several weeks, it became clear that THIS was the energy that was asking to be RE-birthed through this space. Allow me to elaborate…
In traditional Greek mythology, Ophiuchus is known as the serpent bearer, and represents the Greek god of medicine and healing, Asclepius. In my reading, Natasha shared some of the main archetypes associated with this sign: the alchemist, the mystic, the one who can turn poison into medicine, as well as rebirth and resurrection. Asclepius was raised and taught by Chiron, the wounded healer, and became so proficient in his craft that he could bring things back from the dead. Something he apparently learned from a snake. We’ll come back to that.
It's worth noting that Ophiuchus was excluded from the tropical zodiac 3,000 years ago when the Babylonians documented the Zodiac we have now – the system most of the world follows today. But why, when it’s just as clearly on the ecliptic with the other twelve constellations?
After exploring the myths associated with this sign, it seems to me that Ophiuchus was intentionally removed so power could be maintained. The Babylonians, Greeks and Romans were unquestionably societies built on conquering those around them (hello, Patriarchy) and often absorbing the culture of those they dominated. If that’s your goal, then a sign that illuminates the innate human ability we all possess for rebirth and resurrection is not something you want to highlight. Sure, we’ll throw rebirth in with the sign of Scorpio, but we’re going to take the part of the sky out of awareness, so you don’t have access to the power of it.
Think about it… if you look at the zodiac as a wheel of evolution, which I do, then each constellation transmits the energy of a crucial piece of our development and growth – awakening that archetype within our consciousness. And they build on each other. What happens if you take out a piece of the puzzle? You have an incomplete journey that keeps humanity caught in an endless spin of repeating cycles… because the step in our journey that initiates the new cycle or rebirth has been removed. You can’t go from death in Scorpio to the enlightenment of Sagittarius without the process of rebirth in Ophiuchus. In my mind, I see an ascending spiral through consciousness. Without that thirteenth step, you stay stuck on the same floor forever, but when you include it we find our way out of dualism and polarity. With Ophiuchus in the mix, there are no opposites in the zodiac, and we can graduate from one cycle to the next through the energy of rebirth or resurrection.
Although Ophiuchus is referred to as the serpent bearer, I’ve found myself questioning this as it seems to steal something from the power of the Serpent to put her in the hands of a big dude in the sky. Then I came across this article on the Spirit of the Celtic Dragon, and found a gem in the middle. An exposition of the myth of Ophiuchus and an alternative drawing of the constellation that caused me to stop and tune in. Below, you’ll see Ophiuchus the way we draw it traditionally and then his alternative drawing. As you can see, he’s drawn the constellation of Serpens (often included in Ophiuchus) as simply two snakes. No man. Just the snakes - One ascending and one descending… Is this a clue to how resurrection takes place?
Let’s look at Jesus’s resurrection and the part Mary Magdalene played. This came up in my discussion with Natasha about Ophiuchus that day, and I’m so glad it did! Although it’s not widely known, Mary Magdalene was a priestess in the temples of Isis and well trained in the alchemy of Horus and sex magic. Essentially, the ability to cultivate and circulate the energy of the two serpents at the base of your spine (otherwise known as kundalini) and use it to build what the Egyptians call the “ka” or your light body. It was this technology that enabled Jesus to resurrect himself. He simply built his Ka body (with Mary) to great strength, so he was able to transfigure to another form when his physical body was put to death. For more on this, the book “The Magdalene Manuscript” is a must read, but the key takeaway is: Every single one of us can cultivate this strength and energy in our bodies. Through the technology of coming fully into our organic flesh and blood bodies, we can harness the power of the ascending and descending serpent within to bring about rebirth or transcendence.
For me, the most potent way I’ve found to intentionally come into my organic nature and invite transcendence into my life is ‘ULU, an ancient Mu tradition of movement I’ve been learning from Ke’oni Hanalei, a Hawaiian mystic and wisdom teacher I’ve journeyed with in various ways for about six months. The practice of ‘ULU brings the internal masculine and feminine into right relationship, as well as stimulating the oscillation of the spine to cause the ascending and descending serpent energy to be enlivened and released in our bodies. It can cause transcendent experiences as well as a deep grounding into the body on all levels. One translation of the word is, “To occupy as a phenomenal force.” The parallels to Egyptian mystery teachings are obvious, and it’s worth mentioning the Mu culture is much older. For me, I find ‘ULU to be potent and so approachable because the Mu culture was deeply rooted in Aloha Ma – Self-reflective Love. We began learning in November, and while it’s still new, the effects have been deeply felt. Already I can say, I’ve never felt so at home in my body. With a history of trauma (and a score of 10 on the ACE test), I can’t tell you how much this means to me. Most of my life, I’ve wanted nothing more than to crawl out of my own skin, and this practice has brought me down and IN. I also credit it with the clarity that’s come through in astounding ways as I reconnect to my own Divine Feminine. I’ll probably speak on this journey more, but if this sings to you, here’s the ‘Ulu website as well as Ke’oni’s site where he offers a wide array of Mu teachings. For me, diving into these waters has revolutionized my life. I highly recommend engaging with these ancient codes.
Whether it’s through Mu, Egyptian or other ancient cultures, we see numerous clues leading us back to the sacred energy and medicine contained in our bodies as the way to transcend. Ancient alchemical and esoteric texts speak of the Sacred Union – fully uniting two substances to create a third. The Divine Marriage is often represented by two serpents ascending a staff and meeting at the top with wings, or as a body with two faces. Could this be what Ophiuchus is pointing us to? The union of the masculine and feminine in right relationship, working together in harmony. We know what millennia of subjugation of the feminine and distortion of the masculine have brought us. The world we see before our eyes is not the result of “bad people” who have messed everything up. It’s merely a reflection of the state of human consciousness as we bring these energies back into balance and union.
I believe this balance is what Ophiuchus offers. The 13th sign coming back into our awareness to show us the path to resurrection through right relationship. A way to create our own Matrix. A PORTAL to the endless, unfathomable void of creation (did I mention it’s right next to the Galactic Center – the black hole at the center of our Universe?) The Serpent. Not god or goddess, but the Universal Truth of our radical ability to transform and birth new realities as we deeply come into our own body. In this way, I believe Ophiuchus represents our lost identity as humans. That of powerful creators. Not puppets on a string, but the “I’m a real boy” version of Pinocchio – string free and fully sovereign. Ready to be the miracle workers, alchemists, and magicians of our generation.
It's time for the illumination of that which has been hidden. The re-surfacing of ancient knowledge that, as it is fully embodied from a place of respect and devotion, will help us come back from the “fall.” Every culture and mythology around the world speak of a golden age before we were metaphorically kicked out of the Garden when we operated at a level of power and consciousness unfathomable to us now. Ophiuchus seems to be pointing the way back to all that was forgotten and inviting us to re-member – re-assemble into our original state.
You know, just that.
To wrap up, I’ll share the answer to the question I posed earlier of how to shape this space into something that serves and the vision of what I dream of building here. A space for rebirth and resurrection.

1. Alchemical Portal: My desire is to build a magical portal – a cosmic black-hole of creation in the middle of the internet where we can interact with the energy of Ophiuchus. A build-your-own-adventure situation where you can be your own “guru” and lead your own transformational experience. Not a “Follow me and I’ll set you free” kind of thing. I’m just a fellow journeyer. What I can share is a lifetime’s worth of stories of alchemy and transformation. Moments where I chose to face the darkness of my past (and it was DENSE) and alchemize pain into medicine for my future. I’ve always been on the path in one way or another, so I’ve come across a wealth of ways to bring the art of alchemy into our everyday lives. If you’re like, “I don’t care about alchemy” think about it this way… we’re in the middle of a time in evolution where we are being called higher, while at the same time we’re being asked to shed layers of conditioning from the past. That’s what I mean when I say alchemy. Shame becoming acceptance…. Fear becoming courage. Confusion transforming to deep clarity and purpose.
2. Community: It’s not the easiest thing to find people who have devoted themselves to the evolutionary journey and engage with it consciously on a regular basis. I’ve been blessed to find my tribe (spread across the world!) who meet me in that place, so my desire is to create a virtual hub where more of us can find each other. So we can hold space and support each other as we grow and tap into our unique design and magic. I’m working on creative ways to foster this, so if you have desires or suggestions, please chime in!
3. Re-Membering our Future: As we alchemize and transform, we also become fully equipped to bring the future we dream of into reality. One where every human knows safety, love, acceptance and abundance. Where our planet is healthy and thriving and we have a deep relationship with Her. The stuff of fantasies. Which is why, here in this space, we will write a “new myth for humanity.” Acknowledging where we’ve come from and painting a bright picture of our next Golden Age.
All that said, I’m building as I fly, so bear with me as I navigate these new waters. What I see so far are different types of posts, building an alchemical toolbox you can visit anytime and coming up with ways to get interactive – perhaps a monthly New Moon seed casting ceremony.
To wrap this up, I’ll share one last thing. All this crystalized inside me during an ‘ULU ceremony a few days ago when Ke’oni encouraged us to investigate one question… “What is my contribution?” The unique note I’m here to sing in the Cosmic Song. It was as if the pieces of the last three weeks came together, and I finally felt coherent enough to share them. I believe Ophiuchus encapsulates them all: reawakening our Divine inheritance as powerful creators, alchemizing poison into power and bringing the hidden truth out of hiding so we can RE-member our future.
So, I’ll leave you with the same question that inspired this post in honor of the upcoming New Moon in Aquarius: what is your contribution or unique note in the song? (NOTE: Don’t go into a tailspin trying to figure it out… simply invite the answer and watch the pieces fall into place. The Universe loves to help you bring your divine fulfillment to this life.)
Until next time, from my heart to yours,
Kyra 🌺
Such a rich share full of insights and -indeed - alchemical gold sister ☺️ Mahalo for journeying to the core of that truth of yours and making YOU the contribution. Receiving you with full body yeses and inspiration for my own path 😘 ALOHA MĀ
Greetings Kyra, thank you for the kind note. We have a great deal of overlap! I have appreciated the archetype of Ophiuchus. My best friend's Sun is in that sign and we have talked about it quite a bit. The serpent is especially important in my book and the connection to DNA is a bottom line. Perhaps due to having my Sun and Moon in Scorpio and the link at the Galactic Center involved, I am a natural for Serpent symbolism.
The Tantric part is multifaceted and largely focused on the Tantric Yoga Chakras. My book is primarily about the true association of the Chakras and the signs/planets of the Zodiac. I look forward to learn more about how Ophiuchus might add to the picture. Another Tantric part of my astrology as you will see is about the two important Portals between Cancer and Leo at the Crown Portal and Capricorn/Aquarius at the Root or Kundalini Portal. The Crown Portal involves the Divine Marriage of the Moon/Sun, Silver and Gold and the Root Portal involves the Kundalini Serpent coiled around the Lingam in the downward pointing triangle representing the Yoni. Of course there is a great deal of sexual symbolism in the natural zodiac but mainstream astrology is a bit shy to get too intimate with that. Ha!
Yes, have a wonder-full New Year at this New Moon in Aquarius. It is a very important one!
